[START HERE] Welcome to Kerry Makin-Byrd's newsletter
A newsletter by a clinical psychologist on stopping burnout, interrupting languishing, and creating a vibrant life
What will you get from this newsletter?
You will get science-based advice and personal essays on how to address things htat are keeping you stuck and craft an intentional life. I’m here to translate the science of psychology and wellness to help you live by your values and make the world better.
1. Why this, why now
We are in the midst of a burnout crisis. Very smart people and billions of dollars are spent fueling cultures that disconnect us from ourselves, from our loved ones, from our communities, and from what keeps us healthy.
My time on this earth is relatively short, this is a space to document what I have learned about how it works to be a human with a mind and heart. I want to help you make meaning of what is happening in your life, where you are stuck, and how you create something new.
2. Seeking growers, readers, writers, therapists, and helpers
I’m seeking to connect with people who are interested in crafting a deep life. I hope I can help and I actively invite honest feedback about my own blindspots. This will be a space for emerging and evolving. This is *not* a place for White Woman Perfectionism; this is a place for getting better and more humble while growing and learning.
3. What I promise you
I will post free weekly posts for all of 2024 (at least). I will be honest, open, and real. I won’t pretend I have it all figured out. I will be frank about my own limits and the limits of science. I will do my best.
I will screw up then I will apologize, listen, learn, and do better. I will share with an open heart and a caffeinated mind my best lessons from being a clinical psychologist, mother, wife, and daughter.
4. Substack is suggesting I use an image and the “subscribe” buttons here 🤣
Here is a picture of me happy and healthy.
